Performance analysis of horizontal ground source heat pump for building cooling in arid Saharan climate: thermal-economic modeling and optimization on TRNSYS

This paper presents a feasibility and performance study of ground source heat pump (GSHP) coupled with horizontal exchanger (HGHX) used for cooling residential unit equipped radiant floor system (RFs) under the meteorological conditions Saharan environment in Ouargla, city located Southeast Algeria. A dynamic simulation is developed using TRNSYS software modeling GSHP system. To verify reliability including HGHX programs, procedure was validated against experimental data from (HGSHPs) installed at Research Technology Center Energy (CRTEn), Tunisia, good agreement obtained. Then, to obtain an acceptable balance between efficiency total cost HGSHPs economic analysis carried out determine optimum design parameters HGHX. The results obtained this indicated that could effectively solve problem reduce traditional energy consumption areas; it possible lower mean indoor air temperature below 27 °C raise average relative humidity reach 73.97%. By concentrating principally on thermal-economic optimization, optimized COP combines economy long term found be 3.89.
